Pacquiao bait for winner of Mosley vs Berto showdown

By Robert Wills - There's a lot more than honour at stake when American superstar Shane Mosley takes on WBC champion Andre Berto in Las Vegas next month.

The winner of the January 30 mega-fight between Shane Mosley and Andre Berto could end up fighting the top boxer of the world next year.

According to reports, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao has been eyed as possible opponent for the winner of the blockbuster fight any time in 2010.

Based on the report, if the dream fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. does not push through next year, it is highly possible that the Filipino's opponent will the winner of the Mosley-Berto fight.

No less a man than Pacquiao's celebrated trainer Freddie Roach has told the media that the victor of the slug-fest between Mosley and Berto is a strong candidate to become the opponent of his favourite pupil.

Roach was quoted as saying that although the Pacquiao camp prefer Mayweather to be Manny's next opponent, they cannot discount the possibility that he will fight either Mosley or Berto if they fail to strike a deal to fight Mayweather next year.

However, to get the chance to fight Pacquiao, one of them must first emerge victorious in their January battle at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas to become top boxer in the 147-pound welterweight division.

The fight between Mosley and Berto is expected to be a great one since both fighters are known sluggers and hard hitters who could send any opponent to the canvas.

Mosley, a former world champion and veteran of many fights, is optimistic he can defeat the younger Berto and get the opportunity to fight Pacquiao, whom he chased to no avail to negotiate for a fight.

He believes his vast boxing experience and boxing skills will bring him victory against the undefeated Berto, who sports an impressive 25-0, 19 knockout record.

WBC welterweight champion Berto, for his part, is confident he can upset Mosley and arrange himself a mega-fight against Pacquiao.

He admits Mosley is a great boxer but reckons that come fight night he will show the world who is the better and more talented fighter.

Boxing fans eager to witness another big fight should not dare miss the chance to watch the Mosley-Berto fight live.
